Plank House festivities draws many visitors to Marcus Hook for a day of fun, fellowship, and investigation of the rich history of the area

Saturday May 1, 2010 Chester Heights Historical Society celebrated its first annual Country Fair with fun, food, historical displays and much, much more! There were local artists, local produce, colonial demonstrations by the Bethel Township Historical Society, and a visit by Blackbeard and the Plankhouse Crew Pirates from Marcus Hook.“We not just celebrated the rich history of Chester Heights, but we explored the historical significance of the areas of Wawa, Logtown, and the surrounding communities of Aston, Bethel, Concord and Marcs Hook,” said Country Fair organizer, Kathleen Killion. “We have a lot of history to share here in Chester Heights, and we’re planning on making it fun for all ages.”

Who are the Plankhouse Crew?

Marcus Hook is a small borough located on the Delaware River in the very southeastern-most corner of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Because it is located on the water, it shares a rich history that connects to everything nautical.
The Marcus Hook Preservation Society is spearheading an effort to explore and expose the details of events that transpires and what life was like here during the last four centuries.
In that spirit, the Plankhouse Crew was created to bring attention to the area, create events that promote it and inspire people to learn more about history.
We are organized as a naval crew with Commodore Hornswagglle leading two ship’s crews. The first is the Crew of the Black Rose which is helmed by Captain Blackbeard. The other is the Crew of the Queen Anne’s Revenge whose captain is Stede Bonnet. These crews include many locals who want to promote living history and have fun while doing it. There are several positions available for anyone interested in participating. Visit www.plankhousecrew.com or
